Phoebe is a hybrid researcher-designer-knitwear innovator, whose is area of expertise in technical performance knitwear.

She is a MA Fashion Knitwear graduate from Nottingham Trent University, currently employed at SKINWEAR LTD in Hinckley, as the Knitwear Design Technician.

Her interest with the amalgamation of science and performance knitwear began during her Undergraduate degree at Buckinghamshire New University, where her study branched off from Constructed Knit to specialise in active-wear textiles, with a specific focus on the layering system of base, mid and outer layers.

Collections from BA study include PASSIVE | RESPONSIVE | ULTRA SMART, which is combination of three mini collections exploring performance fabrics within the areas of: breathable, thermal, reflective, water repellent and smart textiles.

She has furthered this research through her MA collection: SECOND SK:N. This collection identifies a toolbox of technical knit structures and the parameters surrounding their allocation with anatomical considerations, when applied to ski-wear base layers. It explores in detail the relationship between technical structures for compression, heat harnessing, high heat production, stretch, joint support, bodily support and tissue movement restriction support, all through the medium of knitwear.

In combination with performance yarns - Celliant© and Superfine Merino Wool, the collection created is a series of second skin base layers exhibiting beneficial enhancement properties, within the yarn and structure relationship, that provides a second skin support for the body during high activity.

What drives Phoebe to innovate unique knitted products is her curiosity in to the relationship between knitwear and the human body. She is infatuated by how textiles interact with the body and skin and how, intern, these materials can provide a support that the body cannot generate. It is important to understand that knitwear is not only a means to clothe the body, but to assist with second skin performance and recovery characteristics.

The combination of bio-mechanics and technical performance knitwear, as well as power knit machinery, is therefore the forefront of Phoebe’s expertise, alongside of yarn research and development.
